Commission
Nichola accepts a select number of commissions each year, specialising in equine, portrait and sporting subjects.
Working in drawing media and oil on canvas, each commission is individually conceived to capture the character, spirit and story of its subject, resulting in a work that is both deeply personal and timeless.
Why commission a drawing or painting?
A commission is more than a portrait. It is an opportunity to preserve a cherished subject, moment or legacy through an original work of art.
Whether commemorating a much-loved horse, a racing career, family members or a treasured dog, each work is created with sensitivity, authenticity and refinement — to be enjoyed now and passed on for generations.
Nichola with multiple Grade 1 winner Honor Code at Saratoga in 2015. She was commissioned by his owner to portray him on several occasions in both drawing and oil.
The Commission Process

Initial Enquiry
Nichola will discuss your ideas and provide guidance on composition, size, medium, and price. -
Agreement & Deposit
Once details are agreed, a non-refundable 50% deposit secures the commission. -
Reference & Sitting
Wherever possible, Nichola will meet the subject in person to capture character and likeness. Photographs and sketches will be taken for reference. -
Development
Additional visits, sketches, or colour studies may be undertaken. For complex oil paintings, a preliminary sketch can be requested. -
Completion & Approval
The finished work will be presented for approval either digitally or in person. -
Final Payment & Delivery
The remaining balance is payable prior to collection or delivery.
Nichola is based in Newmarket, Suffolk. Travel, framing, and shipping are charged separately where applicable.
Every stage is handled with care and discretion, ensuring a seamless and highly personal experience.

Each commission is individually priced according to size, medium, and complexity, in alignment with works offered through Nichola’s gallery.
Drawings
Head portrait (10 x 12 inches) from £600
Oil Paintings
Small head portrait (10 x 12 inches) from £1,200
Mid-sized compositions (16 x 20 inches) from £3,000
Larger works, multiple subjects and compositions incorporating detailed settings are quoted individually.
